ANIMATED MULTISPECTRAL SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTS AN EXPOSED BUT WELL-DEFINED LOW-LEVEL CIRCULATION CENTER (LLCC) WITH PERSISTENT, DISORGANIZED DEEP CONVECTION OVER THE SOUTHERN PERIPHERY OF THE LLCC, ASSOCIATED WITH A SOUTHWEST SURGE. A 012247Z SSMI 37GHZ IMAGE INDICATED FORMATIVE BANDING WRAPPING INTO THE LLCC. A 020449Z ASCAT IMAGE SHOWS AN ELONGATED CIRCULATION WITH 15 TO 20 KNOT WINDS OVER THE SOUTH QUADRANT WITH STRONGER FLOW DISPLACED FURTHER SOUTH. THE LLCC IS LOCATED EQUATORWARD OF THE SUBTROPICAL RIDGE AXIS, UNDER DIFFLUENT EASTERLY FLOW, AND IS UNDER MODERATE VERTICAL WIND SHEAR OF 15 TO 25 KNOTS. DYNAMIC MODELS INDICATE SLOW DEVELOPMENT AND A GENERALLY WESTWARD TRACK TOWARD OMAN. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS ARE ESTIMATED AT 15 TO 20 KNOTS. MINIMUM SEA LEVEL PRESSURE IS ESTIMATED TO BE NEAR 1006 MB. THE POTENTIAL FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SIGNIFICANT TROPICAL CYCLONE WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS IS LOW. |
