Yesterday we interviewed Mr. Marianito Macasa, PAGASA's Chief Meteorologist in Guiuan. During Super Typhoon YOLANDA, the air pressure dropped so low that his staff had to change the barograph paper several times to record the ink trace. Unfortunately, the trace was lost sometime after 5 am because all the windows had blown out and they couldn't manage the instrumentation anymore. A couple of important things: 1) the trace shows an incredible ~908 mb and still rapidly falling; 2) Guiuan was *not* in the eye, but just north of it (this was a surprise); and 3) the coarse resolution of this pressure trace makes it hard to estimate how fast the pressure was falling, but it's way beyond anything I've seen.
