Sub: Depression over Gangetic West Bengal & adjoining north Bay of Bengal
Latest observations & satellite imagery indicate that a depression has formed over Gangetic
West Bengal & adjoining north Bay of Bengal. It lay centred at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 09th
October, 2017 near Latitude 22.4? N and Longitude 88.8 ?E, about 50 km southeast of Kolkata. The
system is very likely to move initially west-northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression during
next 24 hours.
Warning:
(i) Heavy Rainfall warning: Rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated
places is very likely over Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha and east Jharkhand during next
48 hours and isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over remaining parts of Odisha during the
same period. Rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over
Chhattisgarh on 10thOctober.
(ii) Wind warning: Squally winds speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph would prevail
along & off north Odisha and West Bengal coasts. Strong wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph
gusting to 50 kmph would prevail over interior parts of Gangetic West Bengal & Odisha and
over Jharkhand during next 48 hours.
(iii) Sea condition: Sea condition would be rough along & off north Odisha and West Bengal
coasts during next 24 hours.
(iv) Fishermen Warning: Fishermen along & off north Odisha and West Bengal coasts are
advised not to venture into sea during the same period.
The next bulletin will be issued at 1130 hrs IST of 09th October 2017.
