Severe Tropical Cyclone Hayley forecast to be a severe impact to the northern Dampier Peninsula on the west Kimberley coast later Tuesday.

Area affected
Warning zone
North of Broome to east of Cockatoo Island, including Dampier Peninsula and Derby.

Inland east of Derby to Kuri Bay.

category 3, sustained winds near the centre of 120 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 165 kilometres per hour

Location
within 30 kilometres of 15.7 degrees South, 119.9 degrees East, 335 kilometres west northwest of Cape Leveque and 355 kilometres northwest of Broome

Movement
southeast at 11 kilometres per hour

Severe Tropical Cyclone Hayley is now category 3, is northwest of the Kimberley coast, and is starting to move southeast towards the coast. Hayley is forecast to move east southeast during Tuesday and reach the northern part of the Dampier Peninsula late in the day.

Hayley is forecast to continue strengthening tonight, then possibly start weakening during Tuesday prior to landfall. Hayley is forecast to remain a severe category 3 cyclone until landfall late Tuesday.

Hazards

VERY DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS to 200 km/h are possible about the northern Dampier Peninsula including Beagle Bay and Cape Leveque from Tuesday evening.

DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS to 150 km/h are likely to develop about the northern Dampier Peninsula north of Broome to Cape Leveque from mid Tuesday afternoon.

GALES with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 100 km/h may develop over the Dampier Peninsula north of Broome as early as Tuesday morning, extending east to Cockatoo Island later Tuesday. Gales may then extend further east to Kuri Bay early Wednesday.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible near the track for the area under Warning and Watch from Tuesday.

Tides will be higher than normal as Hayley approaches the west Kimberley Coast.

Headline:
Severe Tropical Cyclone Hayley is forecast to bring severe impacts to the
northwest Kimberley coast later today.

Areas Affected:
Warning zone: North of Broome to east of Cockatoo Island, including Dampier
Peninsula and Derby.

Watch zone: Inland east of Derby to Kuri Bay.

Details of Severe Tropical Cyclone Hayley 08U at 2:00 am AWST:
Intensity: Category 4, sustained winds near the centre of 165 kilometres per
hour with wind gusts to 230 kilometres per hour.
Location: within 30 kilometres of 16.1 degrees South 120.3 degrees East,
estimated to be 280 kilometres west of Cape Leveque and 290 kilometres
northwest of Broome.
Movement: southeast at 10 kilometres per hour.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Hayley, category 4, is northwest of the Kimberley
coast. Hayley is forecast to move east southeast towards the coast, reaching
the northern part of the Dampier Peninsula this evening.

Hayley is likely at its peak strength, and is forecast to start weakening today
prior to landfall. However, it is still forecast at category 3 strength prior
to landfall.

Hazards:
VERY DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS to 170 km/h are possible about the northern Dampier
Peninsula including Beagle Bay and Cape Leveque from mid Tuesday afternoon.

DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS to 150 km/h are likely to develop about the northern
Dampier Peninsula north of Broome to Cape Leveque from Tuesday afternoon or
evening, possibly as early as midday. Destructive gusts could extend east to
Cockatoo Island later Tuesday evening or early Wednesday.

GALES with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 100 km/h may develop over the Dampier
Peninsula north of Broome as early as late Tuesday morning, extending east to
Cockatoo Island during Tuesday afternoon or evening. Gales may then extend
further east to Kuri Bay early Wednesday.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible near the track for

Severe Tropical Cyclone Hayley, category 3, is approaching the Kimberley coast. Hayley is likely to pass close to Cape Leveque tonight.

Hayley is continuing to weaken; however it could still produce very destructive winds in coastal communities as it nears the coast.

Parts of the Dampier Peninsula near and south of Beagle Bay, as well as Derby and Kuri Bay.

Details of Tropical Cyclone Hayley 08U at 8:00 pm AWST:
Intensity: Category 2, sustained winds near the centre of 110 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 155 kilometres per hour.

Location: within 20 kilometres of 16.7 degrees South 123.2 degrees East, estimated to be 40 kilometres east southeast of Lombadina and 80 kilometres north northwest of Derby.

Movement: east southeast at 21 kilometres per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Hayley, category 2, is gradually weakening after crossing the northern Dampier Peninsula, just to the south of Lombadina/Djarindjin. The strongest wind gust observed at Lombadina Airstrip as the core of Hayley passed by was 158 kilometres per hour at 6:13pm.

Hazards:
DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS to 150 km/h are easing over the northern Dampier Peninsula, but should then extend east to coastal areas south of Cockatoo Island tonight and early on Wednesday morning.

GALES with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 100 km/h are occurring over the northern Dampier Peninsula, but should ease by later this evening. GALES should extend east to Cockatoo Island during the evening, and may then extend further north towards Kuri Bay early on Wednesday. Gales are no longer expected to reach as far south as Derby.

HEAVY RAINFALL which could lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible as Hayley moves across the west Kimberley. Heavy rainfall may extend further inland through to the central Kimberley during Wednesday as the remnants of Hayley move further inland, and a separate Severe Weather Warning has been issued.

TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVICE NUMBER 18
Issued at 2:48 am WST on Wednesday 31 December 2025

Headline:
Tropical Cyclone Hayley is weakening over land in the west Kimberley.

Areas Affected:
Warning zone: Northeast of Derby, southeast of Cockatoo Island, west of Mount
Barnett.

Watch zone: None.

Cancelled zone: From north of Derby to south of Kuri Bay, but not in the
Warning zone.

Details of Tropical Cyclone Hayley 08U at 2:00 am AWST:
Intensity: Category 1, sustained winds near the centre of 85 kilometres per
hour with wind gusts to 120 kilometres per hour.
Location: within 20 kilometres of 16.8 degrees South 124.3 degrees East,
estimated to be 90 kilometres northeast of Derby and 150 kilometres south of
Kuri Bay.
Movement: east at 19 kilometres per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Hayley, now category 1, is weakening as it moves over land in
the west Kimberley, to the northeast of Derby.

Hazards:
GALES with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 100 km/h are occurring or could occur during
the early morning over areas northeast of Derby, southeast of Cockatoo Island
and well west of Mount Barnett. Gales should ease during Wednesday morning as
Hayley moves further inland and weakens.

HEAVY RAINFALL which could lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible as Hayley moves
across the west Kimberley. Heavy rainfall may extend further inland through to
the central Kimberley during Wednesday as the remnants of Hayley move further
inland, and a separate Severe Weather Warning is current.
